New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) will see ten franchises locking horns against each other in the upcoming season after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced two new teams - Ahmedabad and Lucknow - for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The IPL 2022 retention rules for the next season of the cash-rich league i.e. 2022 have been revealed.

As per ESPNcricinfo, the old 8 teams can retain a maximum of 4 players, while the two new teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow can pick 3 players each from the rest of the players' pool just before the auction.

The report further said that the IPL committee has clarified these rules in an informal discussion with the franchisees this week.

Rs 90 crore (approximately USD 12 million) is likely to be the purse for the IPL 2022 as against 85 crore in the 2021 auction.

As per the ESPNcricinfo report, there will be no Right To Match (RTM0 card next year. In two different combinations, the franchises can filed up to four players. First - three Indians and one foreigner, while the second - two Indians and two foreigners. That is, the team should retain three Indians and one foreigner out of 4 or keep two domestic and two foreign players with them.

Moving to the team will ultimately be the player's choice, as he may choose to return to the auction pool for a better salary, even if his current team wants to retain him.

The deadline for retaining players is likely to be by the end of November.
